Blog: Thanksgiving

Happy-Canada-Thanksgiving-Day-Messages

As I write this, we are celebrating Thanksgiving. By the time it’s posted, the holiday weekend will be over, and we will hopefully all be enjoying turkey leftovers or turkey soup. It’s a month for thanks, but really, I will continue to stay thankful as this busy month continues.

Before I get ahead of myself, I want to take a moment to talk about the things that make me happy. I try to be grateful all the time, but because it’s Thanksgiving weekend, I always like to take a few minutes to reflect on the things I’m most thankful for.

This year, I’ve been feeling incredibly thankful to live in this city. I love exploring it with my toddler, and of course, I’m thankful to have the Saskatoon Zoo to explore with my son. It’s got so much room to run around, an amazing playground, and of course lots of animals for us to make friends with.

Since having my son, the things I’m thankful for have changed. I am thankful every day for so many things, and for the most part it is the small things, like laughing, enjoying the weather, or eating a good meal. I’m thankful for my family. I’m thankful for my friends. I’m thankful that I’m able to write while being a Mom, and that I can follow my passion while staying at home with my son.

This week, I am so thankful for my support system. I am lucky that I have people around me to keep me smiling, and to enjoy life with.

I’m thankful for my son’s friends. I’m so lucky that we both have friends that like to do activities with us. This brings us back around to the Saskatoon Zoo. I love having a place to go where I can chat with my friend while we can also watch our kids play together. My three year old and his best friend both love running around the zoo and talking to the animals, and it’s easy for my friend and I to talk and enjoy the day as well. Even as the weather continues to change, we can still meet up for play dates there. The kiddos still have fun outside even when they’re bundled up for winter.

On this month of Thanksgivings, I consider myself lucky to have all that I have. I have done so much this year, including many great visits to the zoo with friends and family.

I’m also thankful for what’s to come. There is so much to look forward to in the next few months. We are planning Halloween costumes, and I’ve already seen the Christmas decorations in the store. This means we can also look forward to the Saskatoon Zoo Foundation’s next event, the BHP Enchanted Forest!  It’s definitely a can’t miss event for my family. My son was intrigued last year and talked about the lights for days.

What are you thankful for?

As always, donations continue to make the zoo a wonderful place. Donations help in many ways. They help build the bears a new home, and build the butterflies a house. Every little bit helps to promote education, conservation, and research. You can also sponsor the amazing Dingo exhibit.

It’s YOUR zoo!
