March

Should I reveal to you that I am writing this while lounging in my pyjamas in the middle of the afternoon? I guess it’s too late now! I have never daylight-lounged in my pj’s before. How many people who work from home have done that? I bet at least a few people are nodding their heads. 😊This is not the first time I’ve worked in my pyjamas though, but it is the first time at home. My first daytime pyjama wearing was at work when I lived in Calgary. I couldn’t figure out what to wear and then decided on my pyjamas, which was basically a t-shirt dress. No, I hadn’t worn them the night before! Did anyone find out? I don’t know. I didn’t ask and no one said anything. You are the first to know.

There are a few zoo residents who would look so cute in pyjamas. The naked mole rats could use them for sure. The Snowy owls and Arctic wolves would not be amused. I tried to take a picture of the wolves, but they were basking in the snow having mid-afternoon naps. Maybe a pygmy goat would look cute with pyjamas? They are pretty cute to begin with, but those horizontal pupils looks very much like he/she is giving me the side-eye.

I was delighted to see the white bison near the closest fence. Normally he is way in the back. His name is Dante and he has been at the Saskatoon Zoo for 13 years now. I don’t know if he realizes how rare he is. There were about 1 in every 10-million bison born, but now, because of some crossbreeding with domestic cattle, they are becoming more common.

For the colder months, the dingoes are lounging, but not in pyjamas, inside. I was reading on the Britannica website that their main diet in Australia was kangaroo and wallabies, but in the mid-nineteenth century with the introduction of rabbits to the land by humans, dingoes began eating more rabbits and small rodents. Through competition for this food, they may have contributed to the extermination of the Tasmanian wolf and the Tasmanian devil.

It’s admission by donation to the Saskatoon Zoo until the end of March. Just walk up to the building where you would normally enter and go around to the left. On the wall you will find a donation box. I hope you will enjoy your walks through the beautiful grounds as much as I do.

I would be remiss if I didn’t add that any donations to the Saskatoon Zoo Foundation support capital projects and improvements, which then improves the quality of life of those that live within. The biggest project the Zoo Foundation is raising funds for right now is a much larger enclosure for the bears. If you would like to donate, click here: Donate – Saskatoon Zoo Foundation
