Blog: January at the Zoo!

January at Zoo

I can’t believe January is almost over. The extreme cold took a lot out of us. We were stuck inside for much longer than we wanted to be.

Now that it’s warming up, I wouldn’t mind a few extra days in January to enjoy the weather. Last week, we were dealing with colds, but this week we are doing as much as we can, and hopefully most of our time will be spent outside.

This morning we went to the zoo to walk around and talk to all of our animal friends. (My son tells me animals can’t really talk, but he’s constantly talking to them.)

I love all the seasons, and there were many times during the freezing cold weeks that I wished for summer. Now, I’m going to enjoy the winter while we have it. I will enjoy the snow on the ground and the mellow weather, and I will enjoy it at the zoo.

I have a little secret (hopefully a well-known secret): winter is the perfect time to see many of the animals. Summer is great for walking around, playing at the park, enjoying the scenery, and checking out the animals. Winter is good for actually seeing the animals. Other than those hibernating, the animals are usually walking around and loving the brisk weather as much as we are. It’s really the perfect time to see them all being active. Today, they all seemed to be talking.

The Saskatoon Zoo is great during every season, and it’s a beautiful place to visit at any time, but winter is when you get to see all the animals out enjoying life. As long as the weather continues to be nice, I’m hoping for weekly visits. It’s also a wonderful and free activity during winter.

We went with one of my son’s friends today, and it was fun to see the zoo through the eyes of these two kids. She was so excited about the Butterfly House they are building, and she is planning a “Welcome Party” for the butterflies! My son kept pointing to the animals and telling me they were so “cute and funny!”

As‌ ‌always,‌ ‌donations‌ ‌continue‌ ‌to‌ ‌make‌ ‌the‌ ‌zoo‌ ‌a‌ ‌wonderful‌ ‌place.‌ ‌They‌ ‌help‌ ‌build‌ ‌the‌ ‌bears‌ ‌a‌ ‌new‌ ‌home or ‌build‌ ‌the‌ ‌butterflies‌ ‌a‌ ‌house, and so much more. ‌Every‌ ‌little‌ ‌bit‌ ‌helps‌ ‌to‌ ‌promote‌ ‌education,‌ ‌conservation,‌ ‌and‌ ‌research.‌ ‌

Don’t forget, Saskatoon Zoo Foundation has announced the next Zoogala is going to be on June 12th. I’ll be sharing more information soon.

It’s‌ ‌YOUR‌ ‌zoo!‌ ‌

All the best to you all in 2020!

Thanks‌ ‌for‌ ‌reading.‌ ‌
