Blog: Open and Safe!

Hello Zoo Friends,

Welcome to 2021! So far the very best thing about the new year is knowing that the zoo is open! It’s hard finding things that are safe for you and your family to do. The zoo continues to be that place for me. If we are feeling stuck at home, and need to get out – and if we are healthy – we will head for the zoo. It’s an amazing place to visit and enjoy some fresh air. It’s really easy to social distance.

My son has fun every time we go. He loves the playground, and he loves running around and checking out the animals.

All kids love the zoo. It’s fun for parents to watch their kids happy and smiling. It’s good to know there is a place they can feel comfortable visiting.

More importantly, the zoo is good for adults as well! This year has been tough on mental health. I, personally, have dealt with anxiety more than once this year. Do you know what helps? A visit to the zoo! The brisk winter air, the beautiful snow, the animals and the walk all help me feel better. The visit gives me time to breathe and enjoy my day. It’s a healthy experience for little kids and big kids.

Believe it or not, having people visit is also great for the mental health of the zoo animals. It’s nice for them to see our happy faces. We love checking out which animals are out during our visits.

Thank you to the zoo for being one of my favourite things about 2021. The truth is you were also my favourite thing about 2020.
